Is Victoria Beckham the same size as the average woman? According to the fashion designer and former Spice Girl, her dress size (U.K. size 6/U.S. size 2-4)?represents that of the ?general public.?

In a photo spread and interview for the May issue of Harper?s Bazaar UK, Beckham was asked about designing clothes and understanding the fit and preferences of her customers. ?We always joke that we have this fabulously gorgeous 17-year-old model who is six-foot-whatever," she said. "And then I say ?OK, I?m going to put it on. I stand for the general public here.'"

Beckham, who recently gave birth to her fourth child, tells the magazine, "Maybe my tummy isn't as tight as it used to be, but I've got four amazing kids, and that's what really matters."

The designer goes on to talk about her work process while pregnant, noting ?it was very hard when I didn't have my body.".

The singer turned designer?has faced scrutiny over her slight frame. British critics called her ?skinny, gaunt, downcast, malnourished and moody,? at a fashion event in February, and in response, Beckham told the Daily Mirror, ?I?m basically just like any woman who?s working and has lots of children ? it?s tough.?

Not everyone thinks Beckham is just like any woman, however.

Genentech, ImmunoGen 'Smart Bomb' for Breast Cancer Clears Big ...

Genentech has been saying for years that it has confidence in a?supercharged version of its hit breast cancer drug, and today it cleared a?major hurdle on the way to making it?a?reality.

The South San Francisco-based company, a?unit of Roche, said today that trastuzumab emtansince (T-DM1) passed its biggest clinical trial yet, a?study of 991 women with metastatic breast cancer that overexpresses the HER2 protein, and who have previously been treated with the original trastuzumab (Herceptin) and a?taxane chemotherapy. The trial, called Emilia, randomly assigned women to get either T-DM1 or a?combination of GlaxoSmithKline?s lapatinib (Tykerb) and a?chemo drug called capecitabine (Xeloda).

Full details weren?t released today, but Genentech said its new drug met the study?s goal, keeping tumors from spreading for a?significantly longer time than the drugs in the control group. Safety results were consistent with what was seen in prior studies, the company said. Even though the company hasn?t yet followed patients long enough to see if the new drug can extend lives, Genentech said the data was compelling enough for the company to file an application seeking FDA approval of T-DM1 this year, and Roche plans to do the same in Europe. About 229,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and the new drug, if approved, could be a?potent new option for about one-fourth of patients whose tumors overexpress the HER2?protein.

?While prior data clearly showed the efficacy and safety of T-DM1 in both first and third line breast cancer, no data was previously available to directly compare the efficacy of T-DM1 to Tykerb/Xeloda,? said Jason Kantor, an analyst with RBC Capital Markets, in a?note to clients today. ?While we believe most investors assume EMILIA would be positive, for us, the results are an important derisking?event.?

T-DM1 is interesting not only for breast cancer patients, but for scientists, because of its unusual way of attacking cancer cells. Genentech has had huge success over the years with its original antibody, trastuzumab (Herceptin), which precisely targets the HER2 protein. But scientists there, along with collaborators at Waltham, MA-based ImmunoGen, believed they could give the drug even more tumor-killing punch if they could attach a?potent toxin to the antibody, making it sort of like a?heat-seeking missile.

Genentech previously sought FDA approval on a?smaller body of evidence from mid-stage clinical trials, and was turned down in August 2010. Since then, Genentech has beefed up the body of evidence for the drug, showing T-DM1 beat its own original product in a?head-to-head study of 137 patients, in addition to the results from today?s bigger Emilia study. And the company isn?t stopping there, running two more Phase III clinical trials of T-DM1 in a?couple different?settings.

Even though Genentech is responsible for development, and will keep the vast majority of product revenues for itself, today?s result is an important moment for ImmunoGen. The company stands to collect a ?mid-single digit? percentage royalty on worldwide sales from T-DM1, because of its contribution to help link the antibody to the toxin. ImmunoGen has no products of its own on the market, and the approval of T-DM1 would provide a?significant percentage from a?potential multi-billion dollar?seller.

Shares of ImmunoGen (NASDAQ: IMGN) climbed 9?percent to $15 at 10:19 am Eastern?time.

Homeopathic remedies come in small bottles, neatly labelled. Now consider this experiment. Remove the labels from the bottles and try to decide by an examination of their contents alone which label goes with which bottle. It turns out, in our present state of knowledge, that there is no way to do this.

But there is no mystery. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by diluting a mixture of water and another ingredient to the point that it is astronomically unlikely that even a single molecule of the original ingredient remains. What explains the fact that it is impossible to tell the solutions apart and sort them into bottles is that the solutions are the the same: water.

Now homeopaths are quick to notice that, as a matter of fact, while it is true that each vial contains water, each sample of water has a distinct history. Each is arrived about by diluting different substances. What differentiates the contents of the vials is their history.

There are roughly two ways historical facts can make a difference to what something is. Sometimes historical facts confer status. And status can be very important. A penny is legal tender only if it is produced with the right authority. An object might be physically the same as an ordinary penny and, yet, still not be a penny. Or suppose I am able to copy your signature perfectly. No one can tell the difference. This doesn't make my scrawlings your signature. In order for something to be your signature, it has to be made by you.

Historical differences of this sort are not physical differences and so they won't serve any role in explaining the uses to which the items in question can be put to work in physical transactions with other things. But it is obviously not going to make a difference to the way we will digest these wines when we drink them.

The other way for historical differences to make a difference is by leaving a physical trace. The fact that the trespasser stood at a particular place in the garden is what explains the existence, shape, and size of the footprints we see there now. The footprint wouldn't have the properties it now has if not for the occurrence of certain historical events. The footprint itself is a trace of these events.

Homeopaths are interested in historically-based differences of the second kind. After all, homeopaths are precisely interested in understanding why it should be the case that different homeopathic solutions have different effects on people and also why homeopathic solutions differ in their effects from ordinary water.

Homeopaths believe that the water in their remedies contains a memory or a trace of the molecules they once contained, that the structure of the water has been physically altered by the past presence of molecules in just the way that the ground in my garden has been physically altered by the man who once stood there.

This brings us back to where we started. No science, no method, no technology now in existence can discern any intrinsic difference in the contents of the different vials. It's all just water.

Of course this doesn't mean that there are no differences. Perhaps our science is simply too immature. (Indeed, one prominent scientist, Luc Montagnier, has recently begun to investigate causal properties of supersolutions.)

But even if that is so, we now have a very good reason to doubt that taking drops of different homeopathic remedies could be causally efficacious in curing ailments. Why? Because we understand very well, there's no mystery, about how and why ingesting food and other substances acts on the body. This all takes place at the rather mundane and gross scale of molecules and metabolic processes. Even if there is a hitherto-yet-undiscovered difference between homeopathic remedies and water, it's hard to see how it could be the right kind of difference to make a difference to our bodies.

Now questions start to abound. If homeopathy works, it works thanks to causal processes operating at a level that no one alive now, or at any other time, comprehends. How likely is it that these unfathomable processes operate through the mechanism of ingestion of a few macroscopic drops out of brown vials straight out of central casting's nineteenth-century apothecary? This is really counterintuitive.

It weds good-old-fashioned cause and effect with, well, with mystery. And anyway, given that there is no way of telling the difference between a homeopathic solution and mere water, given that we don't yet have the science to do it, what evidence do practitioners of homeopathy have for thinking there are such differences? How did they figure it out?

In any case, this is all moot. While it would be wrong to say that there is no evidence of the effectiveness of homeopathy, there is no conclusive evidence that homeopathy is more effective than placebo. This is is exactly what you would expect given the fact that homeopathic solutions are water.

Homeopathy is a theory and a practice. I believe the theory is untrue; it is certainly unsupported. And homeopathic medicines are, as far as we now know, causally inert.

Question: Does this mean the practice itself is ineffective? I mean the homeopathic practice of providing care to those who need care? To answer this question, we need to think again.

See-through 3D computer with gesture controls gives - BGR

Some believe a future full of massive, gesture-controlled computer displays like the ones seen in Twentieth Century Fox?s Minority Report are an inevitability, and a prototype PC designed by an intern with the?Microsoft Applied Sciences Group may be among the first steps in making that future a reality. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Ph.D student and MIT Media Lab?research assistant?Jinha Lee recently set out to change the way we interact with desktop computers. While progress has been made with 3D display technology, 3D has not yet proliferated in the personal computing space and Lee wants to change that.?The end result of his work is a fascinating desktop computer with a transparent 3D display and a unique gesture-based interface that could change the way we use computers.

?Computer scientist Ivan Sutherland once called a computer display ?a looking glass into a mathematical wonderland,? and I have always aspired to walk in this wonderland to interact with those abstract beings,? Lee wrote on his blog. Lee?s creation, built in cooperation with researchers and engineers at the?Microsoft Applied Sciences Group, does just that.

Lee?s PC uses a transparent display with 3D technology and gesture recognition. Gestures are performed behind the angled display rather than in front of it as with most gesture-based control systems, and a front-facing camera system tracks the user?s head so the 3D perspective shown on the computer?s display adjusts appropriately when the user shifts his or her position. The machine?s operator can also control the computer with a standard keyboard and trackpad positioned behind the display.

The user interface on Lee?s PC shows stacks of windows in a 3D environment. The computer tracks the user?s hands on all three axes, allowing the operator to grab items shown on the screen and interact with them in all three dimensions by moving virtual objects along the x, y, or z axis. This innovative combination of solutions opens a wide range of possibilities for PC software and is far more advanced and versatile than touchscreen technology, which only provides two dimensions that the user is able to interact with.

?Users can casually open up the See-Through 3D Desktop and Type on the keyboard or use a trackpad as in traditional 2D operating environment,? Lee explains. ?Windows or files are perceived to be placed in a 3D space between a screen and the input plane. The user can lift up his hands to reach the displayed windows and arrange them in this 3D space.?

Lee has not addressed the possibility of a production version of his see-through 3D desktop PC.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -Cristiano Ronaldo became the fastest player to reach 100 goals in the Spanish league by scoring a brace to help leader Real Madrid rebound from consecutive draws with a 5-1 rout of Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Gonzalo Higuain scored before both Ronaldo and Karim Benzema hit doubles as Madrid showed no signs of missing the guiding hand of suspended coach Jose Mourinho.

Madrid stayed six points clear at the top of table following 10-man Barcelona's 2-0 victory at Mallorca where Lionel Messi netted his 55th goal of the season in all competitions.

Messi, who broke Barcelona's all-time scoring record on Wednesday, netted from a poorly defended free kick to become the first player in a top-level European league to score 55 goals in a season since Sporting Lisbon's Mario Jardel in 2002.

Barcelona's Thiago Alcantara received his second booking in the 56th, but Gerard Pique volleyed in Messi's rebound off the post in the 79th to seal the victory.

"It was an important win that will permit us to prepare well for our Champions League game against AC Milan," said coach Pep Guardiola, whose Barcelona visits Italy on Wednesday. "I am satisfied. At the end, our will, effort and not looking for excuses allowed us to pull out the win."

Madrid great Ferenc Puskas formerly held the record for the fastest player to reach 100 goals after doing so in 105 matches in the 1960s. Ronaldo needed 92 games to score 101.

After its defensive strategy backfired at Villarreal, Madrid started two strikers in Higuain and Benzema along with Ronaldo and Kaka.

The high-powered attack needed only six minutes to give the hosts the lead as Higuain struck a superb volley of Benzema's pass beyond goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Ronaldo made it 2-0 in the 32nd when he galloped onto Kaka's excellent throughball, took his time to size Bravo up, and curled a shot by the helpless keeper and inside the far post.

Madrid scored again off a long pass behind the defense when Benzema made an exquisite control of Xabi Alonso's lob with one touch and then gently lifted it over Bravo with the next in the 41st.

"Against an attacking side with Kaka, Benzema, Higuain and Ronaldo it's very important to have a good defense," Sociedad coach Philippe Montanier said. "The first goal so early was a blow but the most difficult thing was falling behind by three by halftime."

Xabi Prieto pulled one back for Sociedad a minute later with a long strike, but Madrid kept rolling, and four minutes after halftime Benzema was left completely unmarked to blast in for his double and take his league goal tally to 16.

Ronaldo then raced behind the broken Sociedad backline to tap home Higuain's cross in the 55th.

Madrid staff and players again refused to speak to the media after the match despite their brilliant performance.

No player or coach for Madrid has spoken to the press since Wednesday, when Madrid lost its composure following Villarreal's late equalizer. Mourinho, his assistant Rui Faria, and several players were sent off for making abrasive comments to the referee.

Madrid's decision has been widely criticized in the Spanish press.

Mallorca carried the initiative early at Iberostar Stadium.

But a horrible defensive lapse by the hosts let Messi score one of the easier goals of his record 235 for Barcelona. Various Mallorca defenders failed to make a play on Messi's lobbed free kick, allowing it to bounce in the area before landing in the back of the net.

The Argentina forward has scored in eight straight games with 18 goals during the streak.

Mallorca gained a numerical advantage after Thiago was shown a second yellow card for a questionable hand ball when it appeared he used his shoulder to control a ball.

"When we went down to 10 men we knew it would be tough, but we resisted well," Pique said.

Mallorca sought to capitalize on its extra manpower, but Pique put the result beyond doubt. Messi squirmed free and fired off the goal frame, and Pique shot in the rebound as Barcelona remained perfect in its last seven league matches.

Also, Valencia's grip on third place loosened after falling 3-1 at Getafe.

Five NCAA wrestling All-Americans we hope try MMA

MMA's ties with NCAA wrestling were evident on Saturday, as Randy Couture, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley presented awards and several other fighters were in the stands cheering on the wrestlers. The mats were filled with future fighters. Not all have professed an interest in making the jump to MMA, but here are the ones I hope will make the jump at some point, whether it's as soon as they graduate or after making a run towards Olympic gold.

Kyle Dake, Cornell -- Because even though he already has three national titles under his belt, Dake is still growing and getting better. He has jumped a weight class every year, and dominated every new weight. Rumor has it that Dake is headed to medical school, so cagefighting probably isn't in his future. It's still fun to dream, right?

David Taylor, Penn State -- The sophomore pinned his way to the finals, then finished off his Most Outstanding Wrestler award-winning performance with a technical fall. His smooth takedowns had opponents on the ground before they knew what happened.

Tony Ramos, Iowa -- Another sophomore, Ramos won his third-place match by coming from out of nowhere to pin Minnesota's Chris Dardanes. At 133 lbs, his size and speed could find a home a fly or bantamweight.

Jordan Oliver, Oklahoma State -- He may have lost his final on a controversial call, but that doesn't take away the junior's accomplishments in the tournament. He pinned his way to the final with a nasty takedown that could wreak havoc in the cage.

Christopher Honeycutt, Edinboro -- The runner-up at 197 lbs. has already indicated his plans to go into MMA, and opponents will have a hard time dealing with his strength and size. He told reporters that he is fascinated by the challenge of mastering so many disciplines of MMA, and won't be the first Fighting Scot to try fighting. Josh Koscheck won a national championship for Edinboro.
